ST. DAVNET

St .Davnet, faithfulness in you I’ve found,
A friend who even follows me around
My native parish ever in your care,
And lo! you’re with me when I move elsewhere.

In Lavey, close beside my forebears tomb,
A stained glass pattern does your face assume,
While in Tydavnet church for many a day,
In splendour pedestalled, you watch me as I pray.

With one hand free-given favours you outpour,
Towards Tullyvogey, Mullaghrocken, Sheetrim, Dernasell and Mullaghmore,
While with the other much needed blessings you bestow,
O’er folk in Corrawillen, Behey, Moher, Straugh and Mudwall Row.

And unto Rouskey your benevolence never ends
Where, widely gathered, there convene your friends,
Wherever in these you go it’s much the same,
As drumlined beauty fashions the terrain.

From steep Slieve Beagh you’d Knockatallon’s marches guard
From Sli’ Glah’s slopes you’d Lavey’s foes retard!
Districts beloved by you just few I name,
Or (Of) many more I know their fables and their fame.

Distinctions unfair, no distinctions I’ve made.
All in equality stand, all high up the grade!
Dear Patroness, all your domains fair lands to me,
I’d feel at home in each and all, and near to thee.
