RUBY WEDDING
Nineteen forty three quite different things for us secured
I left my home - you settled into yours.
You settled well indeed that great long time
As up through silver, pearl, on to ruby you did climb.
Courage it was to start, engulfed by war,
Hard times and scarcities your early years to mar
Yet you’ve won through, and happiness have known,
And a fine big family did provide for Innishowen
And little angels, grandchildren, arrive at quite a rate,
Each year indeed your count gets out of date!
Count them all as your rubies on this your ruby day,
To cherish while the golden one gets on its way;
And that we wish you ten more springs to plough,
But without further wait, be your life
Just golden
As from now
