KEVIN’S WEDDING

I took the road to Munster
And Iarnrod took also
To Eire’s largest Province,
Wondrous to get to know.
And I was upraised in Munster
By gladness exceeding glad,
Making life and living so well worthwhile
In a world which can be bad,
I was honoured in Listowel, Limerick city
In magic Kilfinane I was charmed
From Kilmallock to Thurles
Corofin, Kilfenora never once
Got a sense I’d be harmed.
It’s all in the lure of a literary life
And like minded folk there to meet,
Be it Bryan, Micheal? Sean J. and Mairead
Or the bold Joe and Joan there to greet.
And the poetry and the prose in Munster
And dancing and singing there’d be
And it oft made me wonder and
Oft made me hope
A good Munster wedding to see.
Sooner than I thought the chance came about,
When our young nephew Kevin did land,
From the far end of the earth,
He had come back home,
And we heard that a marriage was planned.
Though in the course of employment,
He’d gone far away
And traveled indeed far and wide
To the fringes of Munster he back makes his way
Where is waiting Colette his young bride.
And their mutual choice seems a sound one
If success crowns their lives,Well it should,
A quintessence of the North meets
A quintessence of the South
Well their future must surely be good.
So I’m going down to a wedding in Munster,
And as Iarnrod swings to the South,
My wish is all the best to this pair,
Who are making my wish come about.
