Farewell to Rouskey

Oh Rouskey what a change the world’s been having,
Since a stranger I have first that hillside seen,
A place I thought to stay for not too long there,
Yet all of four and thirty years it’s been.
And why my anchor in this land to cast then,
When locations, some alluring beckoned on,
What in those lengthy corridors and wards,
Held on to me when others they had gone.
No single answer to this query have I,
And several reasons there are to explain,
First Davnet patroness of my home parish,
Had Rouskey also part of her domain.
And also some un-halo’d saints around me,
The bitterness of life they made it sweet,
And flightless angels many to be found there,
Their virtues unobtrusive and discreet.
A task at first grown into a vocation,
It challenged me to make it to succeed,
And it did – through friends around who helped me
And other friends who every help did need.
And when the time has come to leave now,
From those faces and those friendships let me tell,
Of my wishes for a future great before them,
And to Rooskey and St. Davnet wish them well
