FAREWELL FATHER

Fair leader has he been, beloved by all,
Unstinted, loyally to his duties he’d attend,
To the humble or the affluent was he the same,
To all was he guide, philosopher and friend.

Taken for granted it might seem he’d been,
By some still very glad that he was there,
When worries struck or troubles came their way,
Instinctively they sought his consoling words and prayer.

His new departure in the sacerdotal style,
A great new height in pleasantness attained,
Ne’er ruffled once nor angered seemed to be,
As arrogance he never felt - nor feigned.

Sad now he goes who to us meant so much,
Our lives enriched by his debonair mien,
And grateful are we for those fourteen years,
With none who’d say but they’d wish it had longer been.

So as he turns his back on Davnet’s hills,
Success to him it is the wish of each,
Be it paradise for him that gentle land,
Where darkest Mullyash seems heaven to reach.
