PHP Web Applications Developer

In this role I was made responsible for the development of Applications within the IT dept. My original role was to move the MS Access system for displaying Dynamics statistical information to a LAMP based system.
In this role I also helped to move the minecom domains to a new hosting server and develop a system in Drupal 6, with different levels of permissions and Google analytics integration. I was also responsible for maintaining a confluence and Jira system. I believe this role as help me finely tune my skills in LAMP development

I took on this opportunity because the company was larger than the ones I have previously worked in. I worked alongside a team of 6 php programmers but also worked alongside the other teams in the company including marketing and network admins. I gained more experience as a team lead by being put in charge of the opt-in project and in this role I had to delegate work to the designers and the translators.


Projects:

  • Conversion of Portal back office system from php4 to php5 and conversion from ISO to UTF8

  • Creation of the Opt-In websites LocoRegalo and KadoKiosk. On this project I created a template system similar to Smarty so that designers could create adverts without programmer involvement.

  • Creation of the website Suayllon for the tracking of purchases on from the Aedgency websites.

  • Development and Optimizing reports on the Portal back office and mentoring other programmers in how to work with template for reports. Also added functions that helped with programmers using the translation system on the portal.

I took on this role so that I could work in Spain and also to see how a small Internet startup company operates. I worked alongside a small team of 2 programmers and an IT manager, this opportunity gave me firsthand experience on how time is managed and work is allocated within Internet startup companies. I also implemented new strategies to improve on the programming output.


Projects:

  • The Engrande SL sites are based on the taking of bookings for budget accommodation.

  • I worked on the Breeder project which involved updating the existing php and mysql based system to use a single code base so making it easier for Engrande to deploy new sites.

  • I also updated and improved the existing Engrande sites.

  • Improved upon implementation of svn repository and setup the Trac(Wiki) project management system

In this role I was responsible for the maintenance and development of several projects. I learnt to further develop my time management skills and delegate work. In this role I have become more confident as a developer while working on projects with more experienced programmers. Projects:

  • Commercial system for job advertising and recruitment. This system had a MIS backend which included functionality to update the front page of website, create jobs, create email alerts, create sponsored jobs etc. I was responsible for the RT system, the subversion repository and maintaining quality of work. I worked alongside my colleagues to share work. Developed in ASP and Sqlserver 2000

  • Commercial system for the purchasing of Gift Vouches. This system also has a complex MIS, schedules and VBScripts to function. I was responsible for modifying code to fix bugs and update database with changes required by clients. Developed in ASP and Sqlserver 2000

  • I also developed a php and mysql system on my own for a client who required me to meet a short deadline so I had to work quicker than normal to get it tested and complete.

Worked on the setting up of the programming department in Silverkey India. Promoted to team lead after 6 months. Responsible for maintaining a high quality of work and I acted as a mentor for the Indian programmers. I maintained a high standard of programming while dealing with my other responsibilities. This role I believe shows that I can not only program but I’m versatile and have good time management skills.


Projects:

  • Commercial system for a professional photographer. The system allowed the clients to view photos online within their portfolio. I was responsible for the UML design, database design, ASP.Net and C# .Net programming.

  • Brokering System; which replaced a paper system. The system stored client orders and it would find the cheapest packaging from packaging companies, The users of the system would then match the orders with companies based on their prices and previous requirements. I was responsible for the delegation of work to Indian employees, reviewing code, ASP.Net and C# .Net programming.

I was taken on in the Mater Hospital on a temporary contract to finish some systems that were developed by my predecessor in VBA, MS Access and SqlServer. I also started work on new systems after I had proven myself as a programmer. I had a unique and challenging experience within the Mater Hospital, I developed my skills as a programmer but I also had to be versatile because I had to provide support for hospital computers, maintain hospital Database and maintain user accounts.


Projects:

  • The most complex system I developed in VBA and SqlServer was the Memory Clinic system which was created to test the cognitive ability of elderly people

  • Developed a tracking system in A&E which displayed where a patient was in the A&E department.

The Virtual Software Company contract was for 6 months. As well as actual programming, I taught programming to a group of Btech Computer Science Students. I was given a real project and had to delegate work so that the Btech students could experience working on a real system instead of theoretical ones.

  • Developed a simple system that would store user and parts information and produce reports based on them for an electronics company. I created an automatic installer so that this system could be implemented on several computers and work on a network.
